Yunfan Xiao’s transformative journey into the world of filmmaking began unexpectedly in a camera store with just a glimpse through a DSLR camera’s viewfinder. Under the mentorship of Uncle Zhou, a seasoned TV reporter, what started as a tentative exploration turned into a decisive career path when she captured the serene flight of pigeons—her first step into a lifelong passion for visual storytelling. This pivotal experience spurred Yunfan to delve deeper into the film industry, her interest piqued further by a documentary on Alfred Hitchcock.

Inspired by the intricate artistry of filmmaking, she pursued a formal education in the field, leading her to Academy of Art University in San Francisco. At AAU, Yunfan immersed herself in the filmmaking. Her film JUST SAY IT was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director at the 2024 NXTUpfest, marking her as a filmmaker of notable talent and vision. These accolades were a testament to her ability to blend compelling narratives with striking visual compositions, honed through rigorous coursework and collaborative projects.

Today, Yunfan Xiao continues to be driven by her initial passion for filmmaking. With each new project, she strives to bring unique stories to life, pushing the boundaries of film to provoke thought, evoke emotion, and inspire change.
