Laura Lambert

Fashion / BFA

My background is in festival fashion. Before going to fashion school in San Francisco I followed the living members of The Grateful Dead around the US selling my up-cycled fashions to other live music lovers. The bohemian tradition runs deep in my psyche from the absinth drinking impressionists at the Moulin Rouge to the Beat era mystic poets. My aesthetic is very Haight Ashbury. I am a designer of the “Psychedelic Renaissance.”

My design philosophy is based on Joseph Campbell’s idea of the living myth and Jungian archetypes. I believe fashion is the way to express the inner vision of ourselves to embody the mythical being that is our higher self and can initiate profound transformation and healing.

This collection is inspired by the rebirth of a psychedelic counter culture in a post covid society. My thesis is with the legalization of cannabis/hemp in many states and acceptance of psilocybin in Psychiatry and as a wellness therapy more people will be exploring the psychedelic inspirations that began in San Francisco during the Summer of Love. In the same way as the 1960s The Italian Renaissance was a time of great artistic and scientific discovery with a rebirth of classical and neo-platonic ideals. My creative philosophy is based on the principles of sacred geometry and the “Merkaba.” I was inspired by the architects and artists of the Italian Renaissance. I based my pattern work on the principles of sacred geometry and the golden ratio while using the hexagon as a starting point for creative fashion exploration.

This collection is meant inspire positive feelings using bright colors and the idea of “dopamine dressing” with a return to fashion’s opulence yet in an ethical way. The main fabric is a hemp silk blend in an attempt to show people how hemp can improve our already most loved textiles. All the fabric is hand dyed using "Dharma Trading Co." dyes and a drip dye techniques with each look representing one of the colors of the rainbow.
