Alysia Chang

This collection is inspired by my lifelong love and pursuit of movement and the power it has to transform our mental and physical state.
Inspired by the dreamlike state of hollywoods musicals from the 1930’s and 40’s she has always been to drawn elegant clothes reminiscent of bygone times. Greatly influenced by her career as a dancer she hopes to create clothes that reflect her lived experience. From street to stage, the dancer’s wardrobe is an amalgamation of contrasting elements and she hopes to show these contrasts of beauty and grit that make the artist whole. Studying Vionnet pattern making, and combining draping, flat pattern, corsetry and other experiments, she is focused on the freedom the wearer can feel in their clothes. She hopes to show the range of expression of the human body and the emotions it carries and how it can be reflected in the choice of fabric or the drape within the garment.
Alysia’s vision extends to promoting cross-disciplinary collaborations, uniting dance, design, music, and beyond, in the pursuit of an immersive and transformative artistic experience that resonates deeply with our shared humanity.
